Fold with love for the environment
When Japanese-born contemporary artist, Midori Furze moved her studio to Eramboo Artist Environment in Terrey Hills last February, she just fell in love with the place.
Eramboo is located on 3.5 acres of bushland adjacent to Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park at Terrey Hills. It is a non profit organisation and focus is on contemporary arts and crafts, including, but not limited to, painting, sculpture, photography, film making, design, sound, music and digital media.
This year for the first time, Eramboo takes a part in the Manly Arts Festival in September. Eight Eramboo artists will have an art exhibition and open studios for two weekends. Midori has decided to run an origami workshop, inspired by the wallabies she sees from her window while she works in her studio.
Midori loves to share her knowledge and have fun with origami. You may be surprised that you can create cute 3D kangaroos out of a square piece of paper. Come and look at a demo of giant origami folding with 1.8m x 1.8m paper. (the weather permitted)
Midori also runs a mini competition of who can fold the smallest paper crane at Eramboo. The world record is 0.1mm x 0.1mm (no joke!) but we can start with a paper size of 15mm x 15m.
