Gigantic Origami kangaroo is visiting Manly Village Public School! (Written by Angela van Boxtel)
Kindergarten children will fold a ‘native roo’ with Japanese Artist, Midori Furze using a largest paper 3x3meter from recycled flyers.
Northern Beaches Contemporary Artist, Midori Furze (Japanese born) will share the traditional craft of Japanese paper folding with the kindergarten children. They will create a gagantic sculpture of 1.5 meter by folding a 3x3meter paper. The paper is made from recycled flyers, decorated with self- portraits drawn by the children.
It’s a first effort known of in making such a large scale kangaroo using the original use of paper materials. The end result has already been nick named ‘Facey the roo’
The artist and children are looking forward to a special morning of creating. Bringing local artists into the school is a great way of sharing artistic knowledge with school-aged children in a new way. The school year 2010, Manly Village Public School does not have a special art teacher anymore and art is left up to the teacher of each class. The children will benefit in an enormous way by having local artists sharing their skills and time.
